日常的煩わしさ尺度(Daily Hassles Scale)、ユーモア感覚質問票(Sense of Humour Questionnaire:SHQ-R)、個人的幸福度指数成人(Personal Well-Being Index-Adult:PWI-A)をサンプルに実施した。

The objectives of this study were to examine the relationships between daily hassles, humour and well-being; and to investigate the moderating effect of humour on the relationship between hassles and well-being. A correlational design was adopted to collect data from 644 participants (men = 300, women = 344), aged between 18 and 38 years using purposive and snowballing sampling techniques. The Daily Hassles Scale, Sense of Humour Questionnaire (SHQ- R) and the Personal Well-Being Index—Adult (PWI-A) were administered to the sample. The self-report measures were appropriately scored and the collective data were analyzed. Statistical analyses revealed a inverse relationship between sense of humour and hassles; and between well-being and hassles. Further, sense of humour was found to be moderating the relationship between daily hassles and well-being. This study highlights the role of humour in softening the impact of hassles on the well-being of the Indian population. This strengthens the construct of humour in the context of positive psychology. Keywords Humour · Stress · Well-being · Moderation analysis · Hassles · Correlation Humour is universal to the human experience and across cultures all over the world. Humour refers to the ability to express as well as perceive stimuli related to amusement, jocularity or comedy. It encompasses multiple functions. It is a complex phenomenon with notable psychophysiologi- cal, cognitive, emotional, and social aspects (Perez-Aranda et al., 2019). The term "humour" shares common semantic roots with the famous rasa of Sanskrit aesthetics (Ram-Prasad, 2021). Latin humour and Vedic rasa in their primary meanings both signify the essential life-giving nutrient of an organism. In the West, the four humours (black bile, phlegm, choler, blood) figured in notions of health. The equilibrium among the humours is essential to well-being. Nātyaśāstra (second century BCE to fifth century CE), the foundational text of Indian aesthetics, defines nine aesthetic flavours (nava rasas), one of which is the comic rasa (hāsya-rasa) (Saji & Bal- krishna, 2023; Zimmerman, 2020; Banerjee, 2017). The experience of humour produces various physiologi- cal changes such as reduced cortisol production, improved cardiovascular recovery and improved function of the NK (natural killer) cells of the immune system (Godkewitsch, 2017; Vrtícka et al., 2013). Researchers have conceptualized humour as a cognitive process (creating or perceiving fun- niness), an emotional response, a copi
